About PEPA
PEPA is the Penicuik Environment Protection Association. Below is a summary of our reasons for wishing to protect Auchencorth Moss from a proposal by E.ON to erect 18 x 2.5 MW wind turbines.
Jim Wallace, Deputy First Minister on behalf of The Scottish Executive issued this statement on 14th February, 2005. "It is true that a large number of (windfarm) applications are in the system but a great deal of these will not meet stringent planning regulations designed to protect our countryside, wildlife and natural habitats". Visual impact and habitat to over ride other reasons.
Reasons for Objection
- Pentlands and Moorfoots Area of Great Landscape Value would be damaged
- Cumulative visual impact from nearby wind farms
- Landscape tourists lost
- Industrial towers 330ft out-of-scale with environment
- Negative impact upon travellers on A702 and A701
- Further unsightly overland pylons necessary to connect to grid near Edinburgh
- Damage to Auchencorth Moss from foundation holes, massive concrete bases, new roads and infrastructure
- Effect on rare SSSI, hydrology changes
- Migratory geese placed at risk
- Potential noise nuisance for many houses in the vicinity.
